Etsy Shared Access works — until your VA has a second client

Etsy added Shared Access in 2026, and for a single shop it is the right answer: invite your assistant, they use their own Etsy account and their own 2FA. The limit is that an Etsy account can belong to only one shop, so a VA working across several shops needs a separate Etsy account per client.

Try Shared Access first

Where this works, it is better than anything we offer: each person gets their own login, their own 2FA and their own audit trail.

Etsy's own documentation

Where that runs out

A VA serving five Etsy sellers needs five separate Etsy accounts, each with its own 2FA, each with its own email. That is a real administrative burden and a common reason assistants end up logged into the owner's account instead.

What Pair2FA does about it

1. Add the authenticator secret once

Scan the QR code Etsy shows during authenticator setup, or paste the Base32 key if it offers one. Etsy's documentation describes scanning only, so capture it at setup time.

2. It is encrypted before it is stored

AES-256-GCM at rest. The secret is never shown again unless someone with export permission explicitly asks for it and re-authenticates.

3. Grant only the people who need it

Viewers see the rotating six-digit code and nothing else. Access is per account, so someone working on one client never sees another. Revoking takes one click and is written to the audit log.

Etsy team access: common questions

Does Etsy support multiple users on a shop?

Yes. Etsy Shared Access launched in 2026 and lets a shop owner invite team members who sign in with their own Etsy accounts. Any guide telling you this is impossible predates the rollout — several still rank in search results.

Why can't my VA use one Etsy account for all their clients?

Etsy ties an account to a single shop. A VA working across multiple shops has to maintain a separate Etsy account, email address and authenticator entry for each one.

Should I use Shared Access or Pair2FA?

Shared Access, wherever it fits. Set it up first. Pair2FA is for the multi-client VA case Shared Access does not cover cleanly, and for owners who need a backup of their own authenticator seed.

What Pair2FA is not. It is not end-to-end encrypted. Secrets are decrypted on our server to generate codes, so a server compromise is part of the threat model. It is built to replace codes forwarded over chat and photographed QR codes, not to replace a hardware security key or a platform's own access controls. Our security page sets out the full threat model.
